Foodland: Fresh from the oven redesign

Foodland

Project Overview

We had the pleasure of working with Sobeys — Canada's second largest grocer — to develop a fresh look for some of their Foodland produce, floral and bakery departments — and then to implement the new look across multiple stores in Ontario. This required working with Sobeys and Foodland's planning, operations, merchandising and purchasing teams to understand the needs of the client from different perspectives. One of their primary concerns was to keep groceries, bread and pastries fresh while displaying them in the most appealing way.

With a fixed budget in mind, our team developed a design system of versatile all-in-one fixtures — some incorporating refrigeration, signage, bag holders, tables or other many other add ons. The combination of fixtures was in line with their aesthetic expectations, within their budget and, of course, able to meet their goal of keeping their goods looking great.

When it came to rolling out the design across different stores, the Sobeys and Cayuga teams developed a system of unique identifiers on all the fixtures and displays developed for them to make the planning through implementation process easy and consistent.
