In 1939, Russell T. Lund opened a neighborhood grocery store. Today, 80 years later, his grandson continues their family tradition of quality, value and service. With strong ties to our past, they are always looking ahead, growing and evolving to meet customers’ needs and support the communities they share.

Lunds and Byerlys wants to offer their customers sensational shopping experiences each time they visit any one of the stores. Lunds & Byerlys will continue its tradition of being dedicated to quality and service as well as innovation and growth.

Lunds & Byerlys along with their refrigeration contractor partner, Southtown Refrigeration, was looking for an alternative supplier of specialty temperature-controlled display cases and food bars. They needed a low-profile, self-service multi-deck refrigerated island display, plus some unique hot / cold food bars for their new Apple Valley location. The food bar (salad, soup, hot foods) was especially critical as they were planning to launch some new food programs.

Execution, support, design, and quality are key because this is a very important and high-profile part of their business. Lunds and Byerly’s customers have high expectations for product quality and shopping experience, which requires displays that match those expectations.

After partnering on some small projects, the Lunds and Byerleys team plus the Southtown Refrigeration team came to visit our factory in Cayuga. We also had the opportunity to show them some exciting and world-class supermarkets in the Greater Toronto area. The team comprised people from operations, refrigeration engineering, store planning as well as the refrigeration contractor, Southtown.

They were intrigued by Cayuga’s proprietary non-steam heat well technology for it’s performance, energy savings and easy of service and maintenance. We showed them the technical details of the technology and how the products are tested and manufactured. Additionally, we had a chance to show our products in use at a variety of store locations.

Through a lot of detailed collaboration and utilizing our modular designs, Cayuga executed a new refrigerated island case for their Burnsville location and two very large hot and cold food bars for their Apple Valley location. With our help, Lunds and Byerlys was successful in executing their new Taco Bar and Wok station programs, in addition to self-service hot foods, soup and salad. Both projects were CO2 refrigeration.

What was the result? The projects turned out beautifully and they were very happy with the results. Cayuga continues to partner with them on future projects, always with a spirit of engagement and collaboration to help them execute their projects to their exacting standards.
